Each year I help to lead Family Math Nights at our school. This began in a small way with just a few grade levels and has now spread throughout the entire school.
In the spring, each grade level hosts a night in which a student brings his or her parent to a night filled with math engagement. The teachers plan activities that can all be worked on collaboratively with the student and parent. Additionally, all activities are copied and given to the families to take home at the end of the night so that they can be used again and again.
This will be our sixth annual session of Family Math Nights. We now have to require sign-ups and unfortunately have to turn away some families.
I lead through educating our parent community.
