Teach Educators Leadership Skills

I don't think educators typically have leadership skills. They need to learn how to think and act strategically when it comes to new ideas, changing practice, and learning together. There is lots of research available in this regard and if teachers learn how to advocate and lead, they not only will impact schools with greater skill, but they will also model these leadership skills for the students they teach.

A STRATEGIC AGENDA

A STRATEGIC AGENDA Based on the input so far, a strategic agenda slowly but surely fills with the following points: 1. Bridging the gap between management and the base. Management and "the trenches" should be connected (role reversal, hybrid roles, distributed leadership, change agency). 2. Approaching teachers and school staff in a holistic way: have an eye for the professional, but also for the person behind the professional. ...more »

Supporting Teacher Success

In many classrooms, especially in low-income schools, we see dedicated teachers whose students are not making expected progress. These teachers often receive pressure and attack from other teachers, parents, and administrators. This pressure, intended to motivate, increases stress and anxiety for struggling teachers and is counterproductive. Building a professional community beyond the school increases confidence and ...more »

Using Peer Observers to Support Educator Effectiveness and Leadership

Engines of Change: NBCT State and National Professional Learning Teams

Using iPads to increase Higher Level Thinking Skills

I have been in charge of piloting five iPads in my resource room setting for the past three years. Due to the testing scores my students received, my principal bought 40 more iPads. I have spent numerous hours independently investigating ways to best use iPads at the elementary level to reach the top of Blooms Taxonomy. As my iPad use has expanded so have my views on how to use iPads as tools towards higher level thinking, ...more »
