As teachers we are allowed sick days, personal days, professional development days and bereavement days. I would like to see school districts add Teacher Leadership Days that would be available to teachers. During their Teacher Leadership Day they could choose to visit other school districts, observe teachers in their own district ,go to meetings with legislators, sit in on meetings at the state level, union meetings, ...more »
In many classrooms, especially in low-income schools, we see dedicated teachers whose students are not making expected progress. These teachers often receive pressure and attack from other teachers, parents, and administrators. This pressure, intended to motivate, increases stress and anxiety for struggling teachers and is counterproductive. Building a professional community beyond the school increases confidence and ...more »
Though recent years have seen tremendous progress toward collaboration and sharing ideas between teachers, whether with grade-level teams, content-alike teams, district or personal learning networks, teachers still struggle with how they can implement what they learn in their room with their students. When teachers are practicing something new, whether it's an instructional practice, behavior management technique, technology ...more »
Teachers would be given a year to take their knowledge and teach at another district as an exchange program. Incentive would be an extra stipend and paid travel expenses.
This could grow into even trading for a need like math teacher for a science professional.
NJ ASCD believes in order to provide a full service experience where children and families needs are met on a daily basis, the entire teacher must be fulfilled, too. Perseverance must play a significantly central role in an educator’s life in order to meet the needs of the whole child. A healthy teacher becomes a lifelong learner and leader. A whole teacher better models and supports a whole child and their family. NJ ...more »

Have the MSE train the new educator; the para trains the new para. For the 1st marking period both teachers are in the classroom with both paras. She observes the new teacher, ...more »
I have been in charge of piloting five iPads in my resource room setting for the past three years. Due to the testing scores my students received, my principal bought 40 more iPads. I have spent numerous hours independently investigating ways to best use iPads at the elementary level to reach the top of Blooms Taxonomy. As my iPad use has expanded so have my views on how to use iPads as tools towards higher level thinking, ...more »
Provide professional development opportunities for general education teachers at both elementary and secondary levels within our district and intermediate school district levels. Lead special education teachers would be provided time to prepare and organize professional development, and be paid if outside of school hours, to specific areas of need according to general education teachers. A common website would be created ...more »
Sometimes beginning teachers do not have the support system of a mentor, or a PLC, or an immediate colleague, to help them create innovative teaching. Immediate inspiration could be achieved by the "I.N.S.P.I.R.E. Nation Network" and could be the uncomplicated resource to help new teachers find the help they need, immediately. District Professional Learning departments simply create a "go-to" online site on their main ...more »
Like students, teachers are being assessed with a one-size fits all mentality. Not all classrooms are balanced in terms of ability, income, language proficiency, emotional stability, and behaviors to name a few. Yet, teachers need to reach the same levels of achievement whether their students attend 180 days a year or 80 days a year. Many classrooms have disproportionate percentages of student demographics and needs. ...more »
