Paid Residency program

Just as Doctors have restored their profession, we as teachers need to "take a page from their book". Doctors go through paid residency programs (the bill is paid through public funds... medicare) where they are mentored and paid as they learn. Teachers are expected to do this in a few unpaid months. Retaining teachers in Hawaii is a district issue. As a science teacher who moved from the mainland without family or friends to begin my first year as a teacher in a culturally different area, I am an example of what can help to retain teachers: mentorship.
