Our idea is to develop a system designed to grow and support a network of teacher leaders. These leaders/coaches will support and expand the leadership role of teachers through a joint labor management collaboration. The goal is to develop and retain high quality and effective teacher leaders.
Schools and districts need to find better ways to increase teacher motivation, retain highly-skilled teachers and increase student achievement. Creating distributed leadership teams within schools may be one way to do that. We propose a shift. School improvement efforts across the country are focusing on teacher evaluation, new student standards, and improved student assessment systems.
