Denver Teacher Leadership Summit

Time to Teach Parents

Partnering with local community Centers and businesses to offer locations in neighborhoods for parents to come and get lessons on how to help their kids with their homework, completing financial aid paperwork for students, how to locate medical resources in the community, etc( whatever the needs may be). Having teachers in Core subject areas and required electives of the high school tutor/ teach parents how to help their kids( my students) be more successful in school while also learning how to improve their quality of life skills. We would try and offer childcare during these sessions for the parents that participate but need to be their youngsters with them. I would also offer translation services in (Spanish and Tagalog: needs of our population), to ensure parents are getting the greatest benefit. Goal: more parent involvement to help increase student learning academically and socially. It will also build family relationships and strengthen the school to parent relationship.
