Uniform Training for Staff

According to the National Education Association, 46% of all teachers leave teaching within five years. In the 2011-12 Personnel Turnover report compiled by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), there were 1040 new teachers in the District. While there are myriad reasons for this turnover, this proposed solution focuses only on preparing new teachers, providing structure for existing teachers, and streamlining... more »

Coaching and Mentoring of New and Experienced Teachers: Innovating and Diminishing the Stigma with Observation and Coaching

Observations and feedback in education have gotten a “stigma” in education. Either teachers find that it’s done too often, not enough, or that it isn't representative of their work. What I would like to propose would be developing a program or training that would allow teacher leaders to take on some of the coaching and mentoring of both new teachers and experienced teachers looking to refine their practice. Studies... more »

Teachers as Instructional Leaders: A video library of the best practices in your school for embedded staff develo

Our District has a high teacher turnover rate; our school does not. We have learned that by building up our own staff as leaders within the school and district, we can stop our most effective and brilliant teachers from leaving. One of the ways in which we have done this is by creating a video library of our own teachers in action. When we are given a new district initiative, observe a best practice that we see a teacher... more »

America's National Education Problem: Let's Take Action Now to Improve the System!

Because advanced learners are in every American classroom and only three states require teacher pre-training programs to include advanced pedagogy, teachers are not prepared to address the needs of advanced learners. The 2008 Fordham Institute teacher survey found: • 65% of teachers reported that their education courses and programs focused very little, or not at all, on how to teach academically advanced students. •... more »

Teacher Leaders are needed for Transformational Change to occur in the United States Public Education System

Public Education is under attack. Outside of education organizations are increasingly blaming teachers for underperforming schools. These organizations seek solutions outside of our current public education system creating the illusion that transformational change cannot occur within the system. There is too much at stake to allow this perception to continue. Teacher Leaders are not only helpful but critical in creating... more »
